Mark Edward Crumley passed on to the stars on March 30th, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 61, surrounded by his family.
Mark was loved by all who knew him for his gentle heart and presence, his contagious passion for his many eclectic interests and hobbies, and for his kind, generous spirit.
Mark was a San Antonio native, born on August 29th,1962 to Florence and Fred Crumley. The sixth of seven red-headed kids, Mark was affectionately called Pinky by his siblings for the rosy cheeks that matched his cheerful humor.
Mark was a loving husband to Sylvia, his wife of 38 years whom he met in the halls of elementary school. He was devoted to Sylvia from those early school days through their marriage and raising their five children, Sara, Amanda, Chloe, Zachary, and Tristan. He beamed with pride for his kids and walked the world sharing and living his deep love and affection for his family.
His lifelong curiosity led him down many paths. During his service as a medic in the Army and his professional life as a nurse, Mark cared for his patients with his signature gentleness. He found joy in sharing his interests with those around him. He was a stargazer, a historian, a lover of fiction, languages, music, and cars, a mechanical whiz, and most recently an enthusiastic cyclist.
Mark is preceded in death by his mother Florence Crumley, his father Fred Crumley, his sister Donna Reichman, and his brother Fred Crumley. Mark is survived by his wife Sylvia Crumley, and his five children Sara Berman (Daniel), Amanda Vines (Zach), Chloe Crumley (Matthew Sickmann), Zachary Crumley (Lauren Tessitore), and Tristan Crumley. He's also survived by his beloved grandchildren Landon, Hudson, Dalia, Isaac, and Violet, whose feet never touched the ground when Mark was with them. Mark is also survived by his siblings John Crumley (Carol), Paula Middleton, Tom Crumley, and Sandra Kaiser, and by many loved nieces and nephews.
A visitation and remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 11th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at The Towers on Park Lane in San Antonio, Texas. The family will also hold a celebration of life in Austin, Texas in late April. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the National Park Foundation, plant a tree, or tell your family how much you love them, as Mark always did.
